I don’t usually make New Year’s resolutions. I might set goals periodically throughout the year, but I don’t make a list of things I hope to achieve and then go back and check it at year’s end. I guess I’m just too forgetful. But this year, I do have a goal or two, and I thought I’d share them here. Maybe you will join me in a similar goal for yourself.
This year, I want to be more thankful. I also want to spend more time journaling my prayers – a habit I’ve followed often in times past but tend to do so sporadically. We’ll see if I can keep it up this year. 🙂
They say if you want to develop a new habit, to practice it for 30-40 days. So I’m going to work at making gratitude lists – 5 things to be thankful for and 5 things to request. I picked five because we have five people in our family. Of course, nothing is set in stone. It’s a minimum effort with lots of room to grow.
So though it is not yet 2011, I thought I would list five things I’m thankful for today. I’ll save the requests for my prayer journal.
Dear Lord,
1. Thank you for 12 wonderful days of Christmas with our boys all under our roof.
2. Thank you that we all get along so well.
3. Thank you for the sunshine that sparkles on the snow outside.
4. Thank you for the squirrels that tease the cats and entertain us.
5. Thank you that Jesus loves me, even when I’m not very lovable.
Can you think of five things you are thankful for? Anyone else want to make a goal this year to consciously list those things in your own prayer journal?
If you choose to join me, drop me a line and let me know. Even on the sad days, there has got to be something good, yes?
Selah~
