My mom loved to look at the clouds. I thought it was simply because she liked to imagine pictures in the shapes they created. It wasn’t until her funeral that I discovered that she loved clouds because as she put it, “Jesus can’t come back unless there are clouds.” I imagine she might have had this verse in mind when she said that.
Now when I look up and see the sun streaming through those cumulous wonders, I ponder. Is that what the skies will look like when Jesus returns?
The verse goes on to say, “And everyone will see him—even those who pierced him. And all the nations of the world will mourn for him. Yes! Amen!”
Those who pierced Him. In our Christian mindset, we might think He is speaking of the ancient Jews who wanted Him crucified. But a Roman guard held the spear that pierced His side. So I have a feeling that “those who pierced Him” includes us all. All the nations of the world will mourn for Him. All.
And yet, we don’t have to be among those who mourn. We WILL see Him, but if we have already mourned what our sins did to Him, we will not mourn then. We will rejoice to see Him because we love and long for His appearing.
My prayer for each of us is that when we look at the clouds, we will also long for His appearing. Not to mourn for ourselves and the judgement that His coming will bring. But to mourn now so that our sorrow and sighing and shame over sin will be wiped away. The clouds will bring Him—they definitely will— and we who trust Him will see Him with joy. May it be. Yes. Amen.

Good afternoon, Thank you so much for sharing this, this is a beautiful verse. Have a great day and a great week.
Thank you for reading it. God bless!
This is so sweet to hear your Mom’s love of clouds and their spiritual meaning to her. Interesting to hear this as My Mom was always talking about the clouds and their formations. Then we would sing “What a Day That Will Be, When My Jesus I Shall See”…. ?✝️?
Thanks, Julie! Maybe we all need to look up more often. Keeps us Jesus focused!
