Thirty years ago I got up early to watch the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. We might have owned a VCR at the time, but I got up anyway. This time, I’m a few years older and value my beauty sleep and am very thankful for a DVR. So I slept in a little and didn’t actually watch the wedding until 11 a.m. EST. Good thing too since the coverage started at 4 a.m. but the 
wedding itself didn’t start until 6 a.m. (I am not a morning person.)
I won’t give a running commentary here, as the news personnel already did that well enough, but a couple of things I liked best were:
Katherine’s dress – I loved the simple elegance, and honestly, I loved that the dress had sleeves. Nearly every wedding dress I’ve seen in the past five to ten years has been strapless, and I think Katherine’s lacy sleeves were far more classy. I hope that doesn’t offend any readers who wore a strapless gown to their own wedding – I just think it’s nice to see some variety. Maybe now brides will have more of a choice?
Katherine’s brother James Middleton reading Romans 12 – He did a marvelous job in his reading. I wonder how many people really focused on the meaning of the words. There is such a wealth of truth in so much that was said throughout the service.
So many creative (and some pretty strange) hats – I liked the sheer sideways styles best, though some of them were too big. I think Katherine’s mother’s whole outfit was really nice. On the other hand, one of the princesses had on a hat that was, well…it would not have been my choice.
The royal carriage – love the pageantry with all of the horses and royal guard, but I think it would be just plain fun to ride in such a carriage! William and Katherine are a gorgeous couple – such gentle smiles and they seem so happy and in love. I wish them all the best.
The DVR didn’t record the kiss so I had to find that on YouTube. But that was fun to watch too. I loved the little flower girls and page boys and the maid of honor was beautiful. Loved her dress!
The singers had such great voices and Westminster Abbey is definitely a majestic setting for a wedding. All in all it was a fun event to watch. I guess when it all comes down to it, I’m a romantic at heart. I really hope the royals believe the things that were said in the ceremony. May God bless them in His grace with faith and hope and peace.
