But before I do, let me back-up just a bit. Forty-five years ago, I married my best friend. Hard to believe the years have gone so quickly! We spent part of our honeymoon all those years ago at the Polynesian resort at Disney World.
In the years that followed, we took our children with us, often to celebrate an anniversary there. Our last trip was in 2017 for our 40th anniversary. In between, we never expected our middle son to work for Disney as an Imagineer for the theme parks. We were able to experience the world of Pandora and the Navi River Journey that he built at the time, along with the Avatar Flight of Passage, which was really fun! The Navi River Journey was absolutely beautiful with its glowing lights and variety of colors!
Needless to say, we were pretty proud of him then. Fast forward five years and today he is among the Imagineers who worked on the Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind omni-coaster, which is actually a story coaster. Here’s a sneak peek. By the way, the Chris Smith Imagineer in the video is our son!
So I hope you can see why I wanted to brag a bit. He worked in secret on this for years. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall, watching it come together, but Disney and their employees keep these things closed to everyone. Coming May 27, 2022, the world can finally see what he and his fellow Imagineers have created. It looks amazing! He did a ton of work on this–more than I can imagine! I wish we could spend our 45th anniversary riding it, but not this year…or at least not right now.
In the meantime, I wanted to give a shout-out to Chris and all of the people who worked on this one-of-kind coasters. Celebrating with them from a distance.
Guardians was a fun movie and the ride looks fun, especially for those of us who hate waiting in long lines and enjoy an immersed experience. The ride apparently covers it all.
If you get the chance to ride it, let me know what you think!
