I should have realized this sooner, but it hit me last week that A Deeper Well is my 25th published book. This includes the four ebooks that aren’t quite as long and the Guideposts book on Samson’s mother. Nevertheless, it is the 25th book I’ve published since Michal and The Wives of King David first sold in 2007 (published in 2009). I decided that this is definitely worth celebrating!
If you’d told me when I began writing fiction about 36 years ago, that I would see this day, I would have laughed. I mean, seriously? I wrote the first two-volume epic on King David because it was what I wanted to read. Later, I wanted to share the story with the reading world, but I knew nothing about writing or publishing. Thus began my twenty-year journey into a career I nearly quit before it started.
Looking back, it is easier now to see how God used those years to teach me to trust Him. And yet…every trial has its own journey, doesn’t it? I saw His hand in guiding my work to find the perfect publisher for the stories of my heart and many more. But there is always a new trial, a new journey where I find myself having to learn to wait yet again. Twenty years for publishing. How many more for the current longings of my heart?
Life doesn’t promise us perfect circumstances, and we will face untold number of difficulties with each passing year. We cannot know what tomorrow will bring. But we can look back and see His faithfulness in what has already passed. God has been so good to me on so many levels, publishing being only a small part of them. Knowing Jesus is the greatest gift He has ever bestowed.
But publishing these 25 books has definitely been a joy! I’m so grateful to know that some of my work has blessed some of those who have read them. To my faithful readers–I am blessed to have you waiting and ready for every new book.
