We Didn’t See Him Coming

Jesus Messiah

Who being God in His very nature
Took on human likeness
The appearance of a man~
And instead of grasping at
Equality with God, which all humans do,
He took the humble road of a servant,
The path of obedience, surrender,
Complete relinquishment of His right
To be exactly who He is – God.
He submitted to cruelty and hatred
And death – even the most cursed
Kinds of death – to die naked on a cross.

He had every right to claim His equality with God ~
To reveal His cloaked nature as very God.
Instead, He wrapped humility in human skin and
Became like us because if He chose not to deny Himself
and His rights as God, we could never be free to know Him –
To be true servants,
Like Him – in character.

We would be forever blinded
By our sin and constant desire to be our own god,
To serve ourselves instead of Him.
And if we’d never known what He sacrificed to give us,
We would never see behind the veil,
Beneath the human cloak to His nature – that is God.

But we didn’t see Him coming…

Jesus wants our attitudes to reflect Him
So that we can be free.
Without God stepping into human skin, we couldn’t
See Him. We couldn’t know what God
Was really like. We would be cursed with only ourselves –
And centuries have proven we don’t make very good gods.
