Yesterday my webmaster son called me to work out details of Bathsheba’s page on The Wives of King David website. We finished up the last minute details and it went live that afternoon! If you click on the cover of Bathsheba on the sidebar, it will take you there, or you can click here. The page lists the two booksignings I will be doing for Bathsheba (coming up in February and March) along with lots of Bonus Features. I hope you’ll check it out when you get a chance. Chapter one is available for free download as well.
Christian Book Distributors (CBD) interviewed me regarding Bathsheba this week. You can see my author page or check out the interview here.
I started reading a non-fiction book about women in the persecuted church called Singing through the Night by Anneke Companjen. I haven’t gotten very far yet, but it has already inspired me to bring music back into my life more than it’s been in recent months. I grew up playing the piano and singing solos at my church. That carried into adulthood for a time, but there came a point where nobody knew I sang and I didn’t tell them. I guess I felt like God was closing a door there and gently pushing me to pursue fiction writing instead of pursuing public singing. Not that you have to give up one to have the other. I have always enjoyed music and doubt I could drive a car without some kind of music playing over the speakers.
But I tend to live in a quiet house. Even when my guys are here, if they don’t play the music in the background, I forget to do so. God has been gently reminding me of this passion, and I realize how much strength and joy comes from the simple act of singing to Him! One of my favorite verses of Scripture is Zephaniah 3:17
“The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.” (ESV)
I’ve heard my share of loud singing – from live bands, to singers belting the words on American Idol to a CD player booming from a neighbor’s yard and more. But can you imagine God exulting over us with loud singing? I always likened God’s voice to thunder. Can you imagine what it would sound like if thunder sang?
I am sure it is more wonderful than I can imagine with human ears. Still, if God is willing to sing over me, the least I can do is praise Him in return. He tells us to sing to the heavens with a brand new song. What joy we miss when we don’t do so! So my new goal this year is to sing more. To sing often. And yes, to sing loudly!
I’m off to find some new music to download to my iTunes.
Happy singing~
