Remodeling week

As I type this, we’re coming to the last day of our bathroom remodeling adventure. Call me exhausted? Little bit.

Toward the end of last year, we hired a bathroom remodeling company to redo our master bathroom. We want to be proactive and create a space that will be useful and safe as we age. (On the left – the top pictures are of the old, bottom the new, and the one on the right is what I’m hoping to put in that empty space.)

They’ve been here every morning until supper time and are supposed to finish today. I will be SO grateful when the work is complete and we can dig ourselves out of clutter and dust.

It’s worth the hassle to us, but I’m sure Kody and Kaelee would not agree. They are absolutely freaked out every day and barely eat…though I still don’t notice that it’s helped their weight! The front door opens and closes too often and the drilling had Kody slinking around upstairs before he made a mad dash to the safety of the basement. It’s been their worst week ever!

While the men work and drill and pound, I’ve been researching, doing character sketches, and brainstorming for my next book. I will be relieved when I have a basic plot down and can begin writing. (This part is always a struggle.)

Once they finish, we will still have to paint, put up some shelves and decide what to put where. That’s the fun part though. I love decorating and thanks to Pinterest, I have some fun ideas to try.

Until then~

I know what you mean Jill, we have to have our house decorated from top to bottom, and after that we have to have new carpets laid from top to bottom, we are no spring chickens!! but it has to be done, i am afraid the Lord will hear one word from me over and over HELP!!1 ha haYour bathroom looks lovely by the time you get this it will be complete i dare say, Bathsheba is excellent on audio book, i listen while on the treadmill. : -) Take Care God Bless. Marie. x

  2. I understand completely, Marie! Unfortunately, we had a very late night last night in order for them to finish. There were some things that need fixing, but for the most part, we are excited to have made the change. I’m sure you will be happy to have your house completely redone. There is always something I want to change, but all in time – for as long as the Lord allows. Hubby can do a lot himself, but we aren’t getting any younger either, so sometimes you just have to have help. I’m so glad you enjoyed Bathsheba! Thanks for telling me.

Jill, thank you for sharing this behind-the-scenes journey of your bathroom remodel — it really brings to life all the chaos and hope that comes with home renovation! The transformation looks so meaningful, especially knowing it’s not just about style but about creating a space that supports you as you age. And yes — I feel for Kody and Kaelee 😂 — the noise and disruption are real! I love how you balance the practical work (fixing, drilling, planning) with the creative — sketching character ideas, imagining finishes, deciding what goes where. Once the paint, shelves, and décor are set up, I’m sure it’ll feel like a whole new sanctuary. Blessings on the finish line — excited for you and can’t wait to see the final reveal!

    • Thank you, Micheal. I believe I gave the final reveal in my newsletter. I would encourage you to sign up for it. Perhaps in the future I will also post it here. It turned out beautifully!

What an exciting (and exhausting!) project! Renovations always feel never-ending while you’re in the middle of the dust and clutter, but the results make it so worth it. I love that you’re planning ahead to create a space that will be both beautiful and practical for years to come. Your poor pups sound like they’ve had quite an adventure too! Can’t wait to see how you finish the decorating touches—you’ve got me inspired to rethink some spaces in my own home.
