May 2023 Be Our Seeking Year

At this start of a new year, wouldn’t we love to see all things made new? We don’t want to repeat the sorrows of last year. We want a fresh start. We want hope.

And Jesus knows that. He said in this same passage, “‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life.”

All things new. Tears wiped away, never to be remembered. Thirst for something we’ve never quite been able to name, quenched. No more mourning for death itself will die. No more hurt or suffering. I long for that day.

And yet, the truth is, we don’t have to wait for eternity for Jesus to make us new. Right now, today, if we ask Him, He can change our hearts, our troubled thinking, our soul’s destiny. Everything. When we know Him, He takes what we offer Him – all that is broken in our lives – and transforms us into a new creation. Brand new. Like one newly born.

As this new year begins, let us remember that we really can have a new year if we want to. It starts with a heart that seeks truth. Seeks after God. For He also promised that “You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.”

May 2023 be our seeking year.
